A New Way to Find Books

Newsletter banner for Gretchen Cherington

Dear Friends,

We each find a book in our own way! Browsing shelves in a bookstore; on Amazon or GoodReads; Bookshop; SheWrites; a friend's recommendation; a book club: so many ways!

And here's a new one.

At Shepherd.com Ben Fox and his team are promoting the work of authors and engaging readers in finding books, differently. Each author recruited gets to market their book(s) on their site when they profile five additional books that have a thematic connection. Readers, then, can search for books by any topic, era, or type, that interests them, and are "shepherded" to, or "stumble upon" reads they may never have known about or finally want to read.

Most of us writers aren't that crazy about the whole marketing gig that's a real part of being an author (though Sue Campbell at Pages & Platforms would tell us that's just because we haven't tuned up our own effective marketing mindset, something that, like playing violin, in my case, surely needs tuning!). When Ben found my book and approached me to profile The Butcher, the Embezzler, and the Fall Guy on this site, I was intrigued.

What distinguishes this site is that not only does it profile each author and their book, but it suggests complementary books that were personally significant to the authorShepherd.com wants us to hone in on why that particular book sung. The five books I profiled are ones that had deep meaning for me while writing The Butcher.

Check out how I approached this little piece of marketingthe best books at the intersection of history, business, and personality, as well as the whole shepherd.com website HERE

And stay tuned as they've asked me to do the same for Poetic License!
